This programme is specifically designed for new partners who wish to enhance their leadership and business skills to help them succeed.
Content
Day 1 – course content:- Personal presence and impact – Enables delegates to reflect on what partnership means for them and how they can increase their personal presence and impact in their role.
o Reflect on the expectations of partnership for themselves, their team, the wider partnership and the firm and what this means for them.
o Identify their own personal barriers
o Reflect on their strengths and development goals to enhance their personal presence and impact.
- Leadership – enables delegates who are either about to embark on a leadership position or need to develop their leadership skills.
o Explore the qualities and impact of an effective leader
o Reflect on the differences between leading and managing
o Understand the impact of sharing the firm’s purpose and vision with the team
o Develop team goals based on the firm’s strategy and vision
- Analysis – enable delegates to appreciate the three key drivers for your law firm: the clients, the competition and the stakeholders. How they interpret these on an on-going basis will determine the firm’s sustainability.
o Understand the “vision” for your firm and how you can contribute as a partner
o Define Commerciality and why it is important
o Explain the four ways their firm can grow
o Develop specific strategy ideas for their department/firm and know how to exploit them
o Develop a SWOT analysis and key actions to drive their department forward
- Tactics – enable delegates to understand the strategy development and implementation process.
o Identify the purpose of strategy in the strategic hierarchy
o Set a departmental strategy in line with organisational vision and mission
o Set objectives and strategy measurements
o Link legal strategy to operational activities
o Understand the strategic change process
Day 2. Course Content
- Organisation – Build self-awareness and highlight the importance of working smarter as delegates move into a leadership position.
o Explore what being productive really means
o Understand what causes us to procrastinate
o Identify where we are spending and our time and why?
o Consider how we can balance our own workload and the firm’s priorities
o Reflect on our own mindsets and how we can challenge them to become more productive.
- Performance - empower each delegate with the knowledge and skills required to develop and nurture their team to drive up performance.
o Describe what high performance looks like
o Identify the strengths and weaknesses of team members
o Define performance levels to measure team performance
o Recognise what causes conflict in the team and how to manage it
o Build effective relationships to enhance engagement and performance
- Feedback – Understand the most effective ways to give team feedback and to communicate difficult messages in a way that creates psychological buy-in.
o Identify methods for communicating different messages
o Explore tools and techniques for delivering a difficult message
o Create strategies to overcoming personal barriers to giving feedback
o Managing awkward behaviours and difficult personalities
- Motivation – Adopt the skills to unlock the power and potential of those around them.
o Increase self-awareness to personal motivation drivers
o Understand what motivates your team
o Appreciate the different roles leaders and managers play in motivating others
- Resourcefulness – A range of tools and techniques to solve problems creatively in the complex and hectic reality of a law firm.
o Define what being creative means and the differences between divergent and convergent thinking
o Understand the best ‘brain state’ for creativity
o Explore the rivers of thinking’ and how small changes can aid the unblocking of creative barriers
o Identify the different roles and hats we can wear to improve divergent thinking
o Reflect on the benefits of adopting a growth mindset
