Managing Generation Y (am)
Lawyers now work with a greater diversity of generations than ever before and, as a Partner who is often asked to manage and motivate junior colleagues of a different generation, it can be difficult to understand their drivers and different stylistic preferences.

This session helps you address the challenges, concerns and frustrations around managing Generation Y, in difficult and critical situations.
  • Successfully manage and motivate junior colleagues of a different generation, by deepening your understanding of their drivers and stylistic preferences - latest research on cross-generational drivers and preferences (PWC, Deloitte, Ashridge)
  • Create successful relationships with junior colleagues who you might feel don’t always understand the firm’s needs or expectations, communicate in very different ways and have a different set of priorities and aspirations
  • Get the best out of Generation Y, by leveraging off the value they can add to modern businesses and by helping you translate specific objectives into practice
Outcome-based Appraisals and Career Conversations (pm)
Building on the morning’s work, this session is designed specifically to help you have increased confidence around how to successfully conduct challenging appraisal and career conversations with Associates, so they become a valuable use of your time as a vehicle for driving performance and motivating Associates into action.
  • Use feedback as a positive, forward-looking opportunity to develop performance, so it fulfills its central role in finding the marginal gains needed to increase the firm’s profitability and success
  • Clearly deliver difficult messages, without watering the message down or damaging the relationship
  • Set clear objectives, agree specific next steps as route-maps to success and arrange follow-up
  • Develop an outcome-based approach, based on bottom-line value and long-term strategic realisation
Delivery Approach
  • Large Group Plenary Sessions to look at key theory and models
  • Small Group Coaching Sessions to reflect on the ‘theory in practice’ at every stage
  • Forum Theatre Demonstrations to show you what the theory and best practice appraisals and career conversations look like in practice
  • Award-winning Legal RealPlay™ Practice Conversations which make the training directly relevant to you by using your real appraisal and career conversations, so you can confidently apply the skills practised in the training room back in the office, when you’re conducting the real thing
