Objectives

To be a good leader/supervisor you need to be able to motivate, guide and commit trainees to help them take responsibility for their performance. This workshop covers the principles of effective leadership and management, helping delegates understand the impact good leadership and management has on their team development and how they themselves can lead, inspire, develop and motivate others.
The course will be highly interactive with delegate participation and engagement throughout.

Delegates who successfully complete this workshop will be able to:

  • define the essential responsibilities of team leaders/supervisors
  • What makes a good people developer - knowledge skills and attitude
  • outline the importance of motivation and how to apply it to their team
  • identify the current and future skills and competence needs of your team and set SMART objectives to help achieve these
  • understand how people learn and how to use their skills to deliver the appropriate method of learning
  • explain the difference between coaching, mentoring and training and know when to use each for the development need and the individual(s)
  • define the key skills required to be a successful coach
  • develop their team by giving constructive well thought out feedback

  • The skills required to be a people developer
  • Motivation - what motivation is and how to create a climate that encourages all the things that motivate us as individuals.
  • How SMART objectives/targets given in the right way can help motivate the individual and the team
  • How do we learn
  • Coaching – What is it and how does it develop trainees in a supportive way
  • GROW – introduction to the GROW model of coaching
  • Feedback - giving and receiving and how vital feedback is to a team’s development.
  • Skills Practice
